ABOUT COMPANIONS:

While traveling across the region, Ash has encountered some new training buddies (mostly due to a language barrier he struggled to get over with in Blawsth)! He’s been instructed to coach two of them, Miley and Jacob, while he personally tries to complete his own badge case (and struggles to comprehend whatever the Spade card meant).

SHINJI:

Despite being a pokémon (Toshinmac), a crafty and chaotic one at that, he passes well as a human in his disguise of…mysterious origins. Even with his rocky reputation and neverending quest of defeating whichever legendary pokémon who will threaten Blawsth, he’ll always attempt to advise whoever the Spade card ended up landing on. He is a very free spirited being, and tends to embrace whatever calamity life will throw onto others. How sad though, as his macabre humor had made him the target of Blawsth’s various obscene legends for ages at this point…

His human disguise makes it possible for him to go venture along with whichever trainer he’s accompanying without getting detected. Even then, he befriends wild pokemon easily, though his penchant for befriending ghost and dark-type pokémon is quite obvious.

SAM:

Sam is a pokémon research student in the Mahtverin Institute and aspires to be the region’s leading professor, due to the influx of new pokémon being discovered in Blawsth recently. Despite giving insightful tidbits to his friends as they travel, collecting data for his assignment, he can be very demanding and condescending at times.

His favorite pokémon to train are flying and normal types, and despite his pretty remarkable training skills, he says he’d rather study than send them to battle.

JACOB:

Jake is a trainer who struggles with allowing his pokémon to finish the battle under harsh status conditions and low health, making the league challenge difficult for him. He tends to be a bit of a coward, despite his display of nonchalance and faux confidence, tending to give up easily. However, if any of his friends are on the line, he won’t hesitate to jump in for help, so perhaps he does have some of that fighting energy in him…He’s pretty obsessed with style and fashion, so his vainness is kept up with personality too, which style is easily reflected back on his pokemon.

He tends to train whatever he can find, though, he does have a preference for hanging out with ghost the pokémon (ironically).

MILEY:

Miley is a pretty rambunctious trainer who tends to speak before she thinks, prompting the nicknames “Miles”. Despite this, her prior experience as helping in her father’s pokémon daycare services make her capable of handling most pokémon, even going as far as challenging herself, even if everything on the battlefield says she will most definitely lose. With her overconfidence, tendency to make a cheap joke and contrarian antics, she can be heavy to handle as a companion, though she can actually be pretty fun to be around with her outgoing nature and energy.

She enjoys training pokémon of all kinds, even the feisty and bad-mannered ones.

ABOUT BLAWSTH’S LEAGUE + ELITE FOUR:

Blawsth’s Black Rose Conference is considered to be a valued entry among many ace trainers across the globe. The region has withheld its fighting spirit since conception, spawning from powerful warriors who were able to tame pokémon easily on a whim. Here is this year’s current gym leader roster:

SHAFTER:

Considered to be an eccentric foreign inventor in Blawsth, Shafter was commissioned for many different devices in his youth, mostly for a war that outsourced from Blawsth decades ago. Many view him as an intimidating figure because of this, given how effective both his inventions and battling strategies against trainers are. People even went as far as to create an entire rumor surrounding the mask he always wears, which he usually has on to oversee mining activity near Stahlotoh City’s electric tunnels.

Given his gym leader duties, he trains mostly electric-type pokémon and specializes in paralyzing his opponents. However, he is also extremely knowledgeable in using steel-types effectively, even surrounding his gym with pure absorbent steel for his electric attacks.

VENDANNA:

Mostly well known to have been spotted in the credits of various spy movies as a stunt double, Vendanna keeps a very private life, outside of her gym duties for Verdori City. She has a certain allure to her because of this, and it is rare for her to push time for someone else. Her other hobbies include gardening and tending the roses of her prized pokémon, most notably her stalkella and skelestein.

Despite being remarked as one of the weaker trainers on Blawsth’s league roster, she is extremely keen on what a grass-type Pokémon is capable of. Trainers must be warned beforehand of her knowledge of status effects from moves these pokémon usually carry, such as Stun Spore and Poison Powder, because she will use it against them.

LIZZIE:

Lizzie mostly enjoys taking long naps during the day, imitating the ghost pokémon she trains. Whenever she isn’t in a full slumber, she investigates the power of the Spade Game cards and if it’s true to communicate with deceased pokémon, trapped in the Spirit World? Other times, Floradin City’s citizens will come to her whenever they’re dealing with a finicky ghost pokémon situation. She’s earned the nickname of “Et Bruhag Det Blawsth”, or simply “Blawsth’s Witch”, thanks to her deeds.

Like the ghost pokémon she trains, she can be a tricky person to deal with on the battlefield. She likes pulling an element of surprise wherever she goes.

TWIN FOXES:

Selected as Twinling City’s new fox pokémon guardians, Hansy and Lenny do a half-handed job at it. They feel united with the pokémon they’ve been instructed to train, however, city elders fear that they were the wrong choice. The brothers enjoy exploring old ruins in the area after their training sessions, despite the elders' orders.

Being able to mix the powers of water and fire-type pokémon, the Twinling City Gym Challenge is considered to be a challenging one, even for veteran trainers. The twins’ successful double-battle tactics only raise the stakes more, listing their gym as a final one on some trainers’ lists.

LAWRENCE:

If there is an odd ice sculpture and assortment of spray-painted junk outside your vicinity in Yujoh City, chances are that Lawrence, with the help of his pokémon, did it. However, those are the few times he’s ever interested in walking around the city. Most of the time, he can be found between the dead trees of the mountains, either playing a quick hockey match with his pokémon, or collecting loose branches for his next “project”.

If a trainer finds Yujoh’s weather to be some of the harshest Blawsth has to offer, Lawrence will make them remember the dead cold for quite some time. His own pokémon aren’t as still as ice though, they’re well versed in physical combat and are a lethal target to anybody wishing to complete their badge case collection for the region!

MELVIN:

Melvin doesn’t speak, yet he manages to annoy just about anybody who confronts him. He even gets his own fellow gym leaders in a fit over his mime charades, as he doesn’t bother much to even let out a word when attacking! His psychic pokémon alone are enough to give a trainer their own mental storm, so much so that most quit the moment they are forced to challenge him…Though, if one manages to learn his silent language, they too can confuse him on the battlefield.

When he’s not upholding the reputation of being Blawsth’s most viciously repulsive gym leader, he can be found doing a variety of tricks with his pokémon, in Blawsth’s Traveling Carraban, more better known as “Et Marmemi Urusul Blawsth Paradiso” in the region. It’s currently staked right outside of Hapsul City however, for the league season. If a trainer ever feels extensively burnt out from a match, they can easily take a rest and…forget about getting mad at Melvin as he gets a pie thrown on him or whatever.

LELE:

Wensly City’s gym is run by its local talent agency, Uruk Jam, with Lele from the girl group, Tri Dia, being chosen as its leading star for the league season. She partially took the job as she was a successful trainer during her own journey, and she also took it because it meant that she could put on a special show with her gal pals every time a new trainer stepped foot, wanting to hear if the challenger's voice can ever override that of her pokemon. However, she gets a little too cocky at times, but maybe it’s because of all the camera flashes blinding her and her Keibirv’s eyes.

Even with these flaws, she’s an expert at raising flying-type pokémon. She can absolutely riddle a trainer’s team with multiple holes through the power of her avian gliders if she felt the need to.

BLAKE:

Blake is primarily known in regional business circles as “The man who bought Blawsth back!”, thanks to his frequent legal battles against Blawsth’s old league council, a couple of years ago, with most notably the previous gym leader of Mahtverin City being his biggest target. The man is also responsible for his own set of controversies the moment he took over its throne along the years, from questionable connections to leaders of some major criminal organizations that specialized in pokémon theft, to his own collection of rare steel-type pokémon. Some have even joked about him being “Blake, The Steeling Snake”, in relation to his beloved Steelix, and how he managed to raise tax prices in Mahtverin immediately after scoring some quality stocks for it in Unova.

His pokémon, however, hit harder than gas prices, and are of quality, stainless steel. No scratches can be found, as their defenses on their plated surfaces are to the max. He got the gig for a reason, and he doesn’t play when a worthy opponent appears.

The Elite Four is replaced consistently thanks to Blawsth’s promising up and coming league participants, yet its dark prince of the night and theatric’s lover, Lucille, has yet to be dethroned. Here’s a look at those trainers:

BEN:

Ben rose to the ranks early on in his youth, being very upkept with his duties as a trainer, understanding well as to what a Pokemon wants, and generally being proficient enough to win Blawsth's league on his first try. His pokemon tend to buzz around and overshadow his typically bashful nature, but they respect him immensely and managed to keep his confidence afloat with each badge and rank placing he'd earn. He was also known for being the former drummer of Blawsth's disbanded rock group, the Nuvantics, and is often hired for various other music projects, and is even one of the Mahtverin Institute's music teachers as a result, just generally happy to share his love for pokemon through music.

Ben enjoys the cries pokemon tend to create, especially in the bug-types he's an ace at training in. He is the weakest of the Elite Four, but he can still give top league contenders second thoughts on ranking any higher on the ladder.

KALE:

Having been fascinated with the misfortune of others at a young age, Kale's interest in seeking out this bad luck piqued once he started challenging others as he trained, aiming to be the catalyst to bringing it out in a battle through his pokemon. Ironically, he views it as a very valuable thing over what some Blawsth trainers would say. He's even gone as far as to train himself to sense the luck somehow, casualing observing others in wide public spaces, but of course there's plenty of bad luck sprawling in Blawsth, so he's befriended a wild Murkrow for help in documenting potential trainers to challenge (it also makes for an interesting story). As such, he's been repeatedly requested by law enforcement to help track potential trouble, making him one of the busiest Elite trainers.

Kale specializes in training dark-type pokemon, being able to soothe out the most mischievous ones into his most reliable. He is the third strongest Elite trainer.

KYLIE:

Kylie always makes sure that all her pokemon are in top shape, and she can be seen challenging them through Blawsth's most rigorous mountains, diving through its fastest currents, and hopping across various obstacles that are off the path of most routes. She occasionally offers a challenge for rookie trainers, some even viewing it as criticism to one's own techniques. Contrary to popular belief, she's a very lax trainer, sporting well with others who catch her in a sprint.

Fighting-type pokemon are her specialty, and being able to spare off against them is also her specialty. She is the second strongest Elite trainer.

REGINA:

Known for being one of the Belmout Academy's top-ranking students, in both battle and fashion design, having her pokemon model for various magazine covers, she tends to live a pretty private life. She'd rather the spotlight be on those she trains, so trainers rarely come across her in public. Even when she usually appears for a match, she tends to be quiet, allowing the roars of her pokemon to echo what she's thinking.

Regina reigns over dragon-type pokemon in Blawsth, being very keen on knowing how to make them tolerate Blawsth's cold weather. She is the strongest Elite trainer.

LUCILLE:

Lucille's infamous in coordinator circles due to being completely barred from ever joining a pokemon contest, all thanks to his extremely risky shows where he'd put all trust into his pokemon. The controversy prompted Blawsth's league council at the time to raise the region's training age limit to fifteen. However, he decided to focus more on training because of this prohibition, aiming to show off his pokemon's talent on the battlefield. People put him down initially as nothing more than a show-boy, but soon enough he defeated every trainer he challenged and became Blawsth's champion.

Lucille specializes in training all types, regardless of speed, status, or power. He is the strongest trainer of all Blawsth.

ABOUT OTHER TRAINERS:

Ash and his friends encounter various other trainers across their paths. Some more tolerable than others…

CIANNA:

Cianna is a sweet and kind-hearted trainer that makes wild pokémon want to follow her around, almost like a princess. She has Miley set as her number-one-uber-bestie-pal-in-the-whole-wide-world and won’t fail to challenge her as her rival. Even if her friend sets aside her advice and completely ignores it to show off, Cianna will go out of her way to help her anyways. Having attended Blawsth’s prestigious Belmout Academy Of The Arts, she enjoys snapping pictures of the various pokemon she meets, though she’d rather get shots of them while they’re prim and proper, and not while injured.

Whenever Cianna catches a pokemon, they usually tend to have a good soul and be bubbly, just like her. That, and they’re all like, super cute.

JOANNE:

Little is known about this trainer, other than she and her Eevee are to be feared on the battlefield. Jo's knowledge is beyond that of a novice, so she tends to exclude herself to those she considers worthy of a battle, often placing them into the rival-box. She also tends to get annoyed easily, often portraying aggression to those she's uninterested in, and rarely softens up, unless she really needs their help. As such, her circle, outside of the pokemon captured, is small. Her greatest enemy is Urie, and she wants no other trainer to confront him if they're weak.

She carries various pokemon on her team, more especially those captured through the Spade Game. She also loves to Gamble on the battlefield.

URIEL:

Little is known about this trainer, other than he and his Pikachu are to be feared on the battlefield. His knowledge is beyond that of a novice, so he tends to exclude himself to those he considers worthy of a battle, often placing them into the rival-box. He tends to annoy those he challenges very easily, as a tool to ruse them, and rarely get agitated himself, unless somebody is in his way. Recently, he's placed Ketchum under the scope because their similarities in their ways of training, and confusion over which Pikachu Trainer is which across campfire tales in Blawsth, bothered him immensely, and aims to settle the score. Outside of his dispatch with Ash, he considers Jo his greatest enemy

He carries various pokemon on his team, more especially those captured through the Spade Game. He also loves to Gamble on the battlefield.
